Notre-Dame de Paris: Before & After the Fire (Lecture Series)

December 4, 11 & 18 · 10:00 – 11:00 am · Online

In partnership with the Alliance Française Miami Metro, the Alliance Française de Chicago, and the Friends of Notre-Dame de Paris, this three-part series explored the full arc of the cathedral's story.

Russell Kelley, author of The Making of Paris, traced the construction and history of the cathedral from its foundation in 1163 to the 2019 fire. Philippe Villeneuve, Chief Architect of Historical Monuments and lead architect for Notre-Dame, gave a behind-the-scenes look at the restoration (in French). Bas Smets, the Belgian landscape architect who won the competition to reimagine the cathedral's surroundings, presented the redesign of the square and its underground spaces.
