DESCRIPTION:Register here!  \nJoin us as we welcome Chef Alain LeNôtre\, who will be sharing his recipe for how to make a delicious Tarte Nougat Pomme. \nAlain LeNôtre was born on April 13\, 1945 in Pont -Audemer\, Normandie to Gaston and Colette LeNôtre. He is the third generation of Chefs in the LeNôtre Family. His father\, Gaston\, the world’s most famous Pastry Chef and caterer\, is as admired as Anthoine Careme and Auguste Escoffier. His grandmother\, Eleonore\, was the chef for the Rothschild family. His grandfather\, also named Gaston\, was the chef at the Grand Hotel in Paris. In 1962\, after high school\, M. LeNôtre had apprenticeships and training in pastry\, bakery\, ice cream\, chocolate\, general cuisine\, and catering at LeNôtre Paris laboratories. \nIn 1971\, he created the Ecole LeNôtre next to the Family Central Kitchen of Plaisir west of Paris\, the first continuing education culinary art school in France. From 1972 to 1982\, M. LeNôtre served as Chief Operating Officer of LeNôtre Paris\, also managing the catering department and the franchise network in Germany\, Japan\, and Brazil. In 1982\, he received an MBA from the University Paris I. From 1982 to 1984\, M. LeNôtre was the President of LeNôtre USA in Houston. In 1988\, he and his wife\, Marie\, created the Culinary Institute LeNôtre in Houston\, Texas. In 2021\, the two-year college awarded four types of diplomas and three types of associate degrees and was ranked #1 Culinary Art College in USA for the third year in a row by Niche.com. \nIn 2021\, M. LeNôtre contributed to the English translation and republishing of Faîtes votre pâtisserie comme Lenôtre (in English\, French Pastries and Desserts by Lenôtre) by Flammarion with his sister Sylvie.  He is a father of 5 and a grand-father of 11. He received the Chevalier de l’Ordre du Merite Agricole in 2010\, a Certificate of Congressional Recognition from the Honorable Pete Olson\, member of Congress\, in 2019 and was commissioned an Honorary Texan by Governor Rick Perry in 2002. \nThis event will be on Zoom and is free for all Alliance Française members\, AATF members\, and invited guests of the presenter or publicist. DESCRIPTION:Register here! \nTuesday | October 11 | 4- 5 pm PST \nFederation of Alliances Françaises USA\nIn English \nJoin us for a conversation with Sandra Smith\, award-winning translator of French literature\, as she discusses the artistry and challenges involved in translating with Beth S. Gersh-Nešić.  Ms. Smith will be discussing her translation of a previously unpublished book by Irène Némirovsky\, Master of Souls (Le maître des âmes). \nSandra Smith has translated twelve of Irène Némirovsky’s novels\, including the international sensation Suite Française\, into English. She has also translated works by Albert Camus\, Guy de Maupassant\, and Simone de Beauvoir\, among many others and is the recipient of numerous awards including the National Jewish Book Award and the PEN Translation Prize. \nBeth Susan Gersh-Nešić\, Ph.D. is an art historian and the director of the New York Arts Exchange\, an arts education service. Her translation and annotation of André Salmon’s first two books on art were published as André Salmon on French Modern Art (Cambridge University Press\, 2005)\, and her most recent book is a translation of Salmon expert Dr. Jacqueline Gojard’s Pablo Picasso\, André Salmon and “Young French Painting” (Za Mir Press\, 2022). She contributes to the online magazine Bonjour Paris and teaches art history at Mercy College.    \nIrène Némirovsky was born in Kiev\, Ukraine\, in 1903 into a wealthy Jewish family and was raised in a life of privilege in Europe. After fleeing Russia during the Revolution\, she immersed herself in the company of thinkers\, artists\, musicians\, and other cultural elites as part of the Parisian literati of her time. Sixty-two years after her death\, in 2004\, the never-before-published Suite Française brought international acclaim to this gifted writer\, whose life was tragically lost in the Holocaust. Tangi will be speaking to us about his new book in French\, La Saint Tous Là. \nTangi Colombel is a native of France. He is an actor and singer who appeared in various plays and musicals like “Jacques Brel is Alive ” and “Les Liaisons Dangereuses” at Palm Beach Dramaworks (FL). He was featured in the French Movie “Bienvenue à Bord” and the American Film “Step Up 4”. On television he has been seen in a French version of “My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiancé”\, in Netflix’s Bloodline season 2\, in CBS’s MacGyver season 4\, and several Telenovelas produced by NBC/Telemundo in Spanish. Recently he was seen in “Le peignoir aux Alouettes”\, a French modern Vaudeville at the Fillmore Theatre in Miami\, appeared in different commercials such as Sprite\, Johnny Rockets\, SC Lottery. Introduced by Black American soldiers and musicians during and following the First World War\, jazz was embraced by the French and swept the country. \nParis—long the cradle of the avant-garde and where black Americans could live free of racial discrimination—provided a haven for the great American and French musicians who lived and worked there\, including Josephine Baker\, Sidney Bechet\, Ada “Bricktop” Smith\, Django Reinhardt\, Stephane Grappelli\, and Arthur Briggs. Jazz influenced composers like Ravel\, and artists like Matisse.
